PHANTOMS LOOKING TO REGROUP |
AFTER TWO ROAD LOSSES
The New Hampshire Phantoms first road trip proved to be unkind as the team came home from losses against the Long Island Rough Riders (1-0) on Saturday night and a 5-2 dumping against the Newark IronBound Express on Sunday afternoon. The Phantoms goal scorers were Chris Banks and Michael Todesca. "We deserved better, a tie would have been a fair result at Long Island, and we should have won at Newark, even though we lost 5-2", said coach DeDeus. But having gone a 2 game road trip with 15 players and losing 2 to injury at Long Island, leaving only 2 field players on the bench as substitutions , made it difficult in Newark. The Phantoms were missing 4 players to injury prior to the road trip and several others to college commitments.
This coming weekend, the Phantoms (0-2-1) have another difficult weekend facing the Westchester Flames on Saturday night and the Brooklyn Knights on Sunday afternoon. "We will have 18-20 players available for this trip and that will be a big help" said coach DeDeus.
The Phantoms return home on Friday May 22nd to host the Ocean City Barrons. Kickoff is at 7:30 at Southern New Hampshire University.

PHANTOMS PREPARE FOR NEW SEASON |
The NH Phantoms Look Forward to 14th Season in the United Soccer Leagues.
The New Hampshire Phantoms are busy preparing for their 14th season in the United Soccer Leagues. It will be their 2nd season in the PDL division where player development is the focus of the competing clubs. The club will make the campus of SNHU their home for the 2009 season. The home opener against the New Jersey Rangers will be on Saturday, May 2nd. The Phantoms will then begin a stretch of four road games, before returning home on Friday, May 22nd to face the Ocean City Barons. The team will be looking to improve on the '08 season that saw the Phantoms undefeated through the first six games just missing out on a birth in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup by one point before injuries took their toll on the relatively small local squad.
The Phantoms have built a strong base in recent years developing a great core of talent through their youth program. Of the players currently rostered on the PDL team 10 of them played for the Phantoms' youth teams. The Phantoms will be looking for another strong start with this group of young but experienced players. Head Coach Jim DeDeus is excited about the team’s prospects for 2009 stating--
“The early part of the season will be tough for our squad with all the road games but it should give us a chance to bond as a group. I am looking forward to seeing this year’s squad in action and it is very satisfying to see so many products from our youth system stepping up to the senior squad.
The team will play 20 game schedule including 16 league games and 4 non-league games against 2010 expansion teams. Schedule Link
